  Unscented Base Oils
  • Sweet Almond
  • Avocado
  • Grapeseed
  • Hemp

Almond (sweet) Oil is the gold standard for massage. It is perhaps the most popular of carrier oils, since it is non-greasy, spreads easily, provides good "slip and glide" and also is great for nourishing the skin. Its aroma is very slight, practically odorless, slightly sweet, slightly nutty. An excellent emollient (softening and soothing to the skin), almond oil lubricates the skin but does not penetrate it quickly, which again makes it good for massage and for protecting the surface of the skin.

Avocado Oil is a thicker oil, rich and heavy, deeply penetrating and with its abundance of vitamins A and D, lecithin, potassium as well as vitamin E., renown for promoting healthy skin. Avocado is a quick penetrating, cleansing oil that rejuvenates and re-vitalizes not only the surface skin but also the lower epidermal layers. I consider it an excellent oil for winter massages.

Grapeseed Oil, also popular for massage, is very ight, odorless and easily absorbed. It is an excellent choice for summer massage. This is a fine textured oil with a satiny finish. It's mildly astringent, so it tightens and tones the skin, which makes it useful for around the eyes and neck. However, grapeseed oil is always solvent-extracted, which can cause sensitivity in some individuals.

Hemp Seed Oil has the lowest amount of saturated fatty acids of any plant-derived oil and is one of the world's richest sources of polyunsaturated fats, including both of the essential fatty acids (Omega 3 and Omega 6) and GLA (gamma Linolenic acid), which make it an excellent natural emollient and moisturizer as well as a key nutritive ingredient for anti-inflammatory skin care. Hemp absorbs into the skin very quickly to remoisturize, revive and repair cells damaged by sun, wind & ultraviolet light.
